Elgin, IL - B&G Train World has been family-owned and operated since the doors first opened on October 10, 1984. Over 25 years later, in 2010, we finally stepped into the ‘modern age’ with the launch of a website!
A lot’s changed over the years; the economy, the prices, etc; but one thing remains constant here at B&G. Our dedication to the hobbyist is still and always will be our top priority.
The store has remained at the same location all these years at 829 Walnut Avenue in Elgin, Illinois. We’ve added on to the store and built a warehouse to help expand our inventory, but still can’t stock everything. We have a sign above the cash register that says it all: “Can’t find it? We’ll order it!”

At Green River Hobbies, we specialize in model trains. We currently carry stock in G, HO, N and On30 and O (3-rail) scale trains, but can special order other scales. Our inventory includes engines, cars, track, and structures, scenery accessories, railroad videos and books, military planes/vehicles and diorama accessories, model car and truck kits, and Estes model rockets. We also carry a selection of parts and scratch-building supplies (balsa wood and styrene). In addition to conventional (DC) transformers, we have a selection of DCC systems, decoders and accessories. You can contact us for decoder installations and we offer some repair services for model trains.

Illinois, Lemont - Oakridge Hobbies
Lemont, IL - Established in 1987, by the Robb family, who are model railroading, slot car racing, toy collecting and dollhouse miniature enthusiasts, Oakridge began as a mail-order retailer, supplying much needed scale miniatures and accessories to hobbyist and model railroaders working in "O" Scale (Lionel Trains) and "G" Scale (L.G.B. Trains).
Oakridge also recognized a need by dollhouse miniaturist for scale miniatures in the "smaller scales" (quarter scale and half scale), so an expansion in product offerings was made to encompass and blend the miniatures of model railroaders and the miniatures of dollhouse miniaturist together to offer one source to both hobbies. It was recognized that the model railroader's dioramas were becoming more sophisticated with the use of lighted and decorated building interiors, and with Oakridge's expanded catalog offering, dollhouse miniaturists now had an additional source for interior accessories and miniatures for their quarter and half scale miniature houses, room boxes and displays.
