Johnny's Junk Heap
I've been a collector and operator of model trains for many years. I was unhappy with the resin loads
available. So I decided to create something much more realistic. My first scrap loads were made from
bits of metal, plastic, wire and wood collected from my workbench and scrap bin. Friends at our club
layout were impressed enough to inquire if I could create scrap loads for their gondolas as well. Thus,
Johnny's Junk Heap was born.
As I refined my production methods I was able to find several local suppliers of clean, unused plastic
sheet. The plastic sheet is smashed, shredded and pulverized. These bits then undergo a painting and
dusting process to give them their characteristic "rusty" appearance. When I can get them, I will also
add unwanted train parts, discarded electronic components and segments of rusty wire to the mix.
