Puget Sound Iron Goat Railway New Open link in new window
This is the story of the Puget Sound Iron Goat Railway (PSIG), established in 1935, a mythical, wholly owned subsidiary of the Great Northern Railway as it was in the month of October, 1938, located in the Pacific Northwest region near Bellevue and Issaquah on the eastside of the Greater Seattle region in Washington.

This freelanced 12' x 14' walk-in layout when finished will include logging, mining and sawmill operations, a city, three small towns, a residential neighborhood, waterfront piers with associated businesses, various siding industries, a dairy farm, stock yards, passenger depots and a train yard with a turntable and maintenance shop. Freight train operations are planned in addition to a passenger service, based on the Great Northern Cascadian, complete this themed steam era layout. Plus lots of people, landscaping and loads of junk and details.

Rainier Great Western Railway and Navigation Company New Open link in new window
The RGW was was originally designed and constructed in Tacoma, WA. It was built in a 14 ft by 25 ft space in a basement room. The layout had reached full operating capability but no scenery when it was dismantled due to a move. After two years in storage, the new home of the RGW has been constructed and a new design has been decided upon (with continual modifications, whose railroad doesn't). The new building is a 20 ft by 30 ft self contained structure which was completed in January of 2005. Since the first table section was installed in February of 2005, construction continues in earnest. For more details on the building and the layout, go to the Layout Page.

County Gate Open link in new window
the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in 009 scale

I have built a number of 009 railways in a number of different countries but then took a long break until retiring from piloting aircraft. It was then that County Gate was born.

After some consideration I decided to model a freelance section of the L & B as this offers a greater degree of creative opportunity.

Great Northwestern Railway Open link in new window
A freelanced HO scale switching layout. The railway is set in industrial suburbia, sometime in the late 70ís. The story goes that the GNW bought up an old narrow gauge right of way from the Colorado Southern (itself later merged into the Burlington Route and the AT&SF), including the old R.O.W of the Denver, South Park and Pacific, which the GNW has rebuilt in standard gauge.

HO scale Ogdensburg & Norwood Railway Open link in new window
The O&N is a freelanced, circa 1948 HO scale model railroad layout based, in part, upon the influences of the prototype shortline railroad operated in the late 1960's - early 1970's by my family, running from Ogdensburg, NY on the Saint Lawrence River and U.S. border with Canada, and 25-miles to the east at Norwood, NY and interchange with the Penn Central.

Other major prototype influences include family multi-generational experiences with the NYO&W on its Southern Division, as well as the regional influences of the New York Central, the Rutland, and other interchanging railroads of the period.
